Who is Global Green?
The Facts
Working with The Equilibrium Institute, Aaron Straight was recently in NYC documenting the Green Cross/Global Green USA annual awards ceremony which recognizes corporate environmental leaders.
The Back Story
Former Cold War leader, Mikhail Gorbachev is now one of the world's most recognized environmental champions doing much of his works through his non-profit Green Cross International and it's US affiliate, Global Green USA.
This year's honorees were Bank of America, Goldman, Sachs & Co., Telsa Motors, and The Sundance Channel. Bank of America won this year for designing the world's most environmentally friendly skyscraper for their new Manhattan corporate headquarters. This building will generate 70% of it’s own energy, collect rain water, and consume half the energy & water of a typical office building.
Goldman, Sachs & Co. has dedicated over 1 BILLION dollars to alternative energy research as well as partnering with the Wildlife Conservation Society to create a 680 thousand acre nature reserve in the Chilian Wilderness of Tierra del Fuego.
Telsa Motors has created what is being called "the first DESIRABLE electric car". This car, whose body was designed by LOTUS and whose brains were designed by a team from Silicon Valley, is faster than a porsche 911, uses zero oil, gets 250 miles to a charge, and does 0 to 60 in less than 4 seconds.
The Sundance Channel, under the continued guidance of Robert Redford, has dedicated one hour a week of programming to telling the positive and inspirational stories about the environment. The show is called The Green and airs this spring only on Sundance.
