Inner-city Educational Program

Make it Happen

The Facts

The FN Group developed an original arts education program that engaged funding sources and media outlets in order to provide professional creative outlets and job opportunities for inner-city youth.

The Back Story

The "Make it Happen" curriculum aimed to teach life and business skills through hip-hop, and empowered kids who lacked access to the public by connecting them with local industry and institutions. Working with local high schools, drop-in shelters, community centers, the mayor's office, and a strong local non-profit, we raised funding, recorded and designed an album of original music with inner city youth, produced events for them to perform their work, and build strategic partnerships with prominent community resources from recording studios, festivals, music museums, city internships, introductions to talent agents, and institutions of higher learning. Through the generous support of Stone Gossard, Pearl Jam, and Studio Litho, we were able to record and design an anti-violence hip hop EP of original music that student were able to sell to support their continued art.

Notable Partners

Stone Gossard (Pearl Jam), Studio Litho, Seattle Art Museum, Experience Music Project, Bumbershoot, Arts Corps, Rainier Beach High School, Miller Community Center, University Drop-in Program, and the Seattle Mayor's Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs.
